Region 3 Houston Chapter Meeting Highlights

The APSP Greater Houston Chapter’s recent meeting had over 100 attendees. Sound pool design and construction is a hot topic among APSP members and the local chapter. Listening to the concerns of their members, the chapter invited David Eastwood, PE, to discuss prudent practices and guidelines for inground pool construction. Mr. Eastwood is the president and chief engineer of Geotech Engineering and Testing (GET). For more information on structuring an issues-based meeting, please contact Regional Manager Pam Vinje.

Mr. Eastwood presented Recommended Guidelines for the Design and Construction of Inground Swimming Pools in Houston, TX. He recommends that pool design and construction always consider the effects of subsoil, groundwater, structural considerations, drainage, trees, slopes, etc. His presentation highlighted performance problems caused by expansive soils or perched water tables.
