APSP Signs Cooperative Agreement with the International Code Council
APSP and the International Code Council (ICC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work together on areas of mutual benefit and interest including standards development, research, education, marketing, and communications. The agreement was announced February 22 during the ICC’s Code Development Hearings held February 18-March 1 in Palm Springs, CA.
The Memorandum of Understanding agreement recognizes the shared technical interests of both the ICC and the APSP and seeks to advance and promote
mutual interests of swimming pool and spa professionals. ICC and APSP will now begin the process of identifying specific areas of mutual interest and implementing new cooperative ventures.
As well-recognized standards-developing organizations, the ICC and APSP standards programs receive special emphasis in the agreement. The agreement supports cooperative standards development to benefit the global plumbing and sanitation industry and advancement of science and technology through research programs. Through the agreement, APSP and ICC will support each other’s technical initiatives, including committees.
In addition to cooperative efforts in research, technical, and standards development, the objectives of the agreement include cross-marketing and sharing of products and services; enhanced communications and dialogue between ICC and APSP; and other cooperative ventures including education, conferences, and publications.
Carvin DiGiovanni, APSP’s senior technical director, said, “APSP is excited about this new level of joint cooperation with the ICC and we look forward to enhancing the value of APSP programs and resources as a result of this agreement. The agreement will lead to the creation of new products and services and will enhance existing ones. As a result of the agreement, both APSP and ICC expect to increase the scope and impact of their programs and resources and value to members.”
"ICC's membership believes that industry involvement is a valuable source of information as we develop and refine our codes and standards," said Jay Peters, ICC's executive director of Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas (PMG). "This agreement solidifies our relationship and has great potential benefits for both organizations and for the safety of the public."
The ICC was founded in 1994 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing a single set of comprehensive and coordinated national model construction codes. Most U.S. cities, counties, and states that adopt codes choose the International Codes developed by the International Code Council.
