APSP Gathering Info, Prioritizing Outreach Efforts for New Pool Law

APSP, with the technical assistance of its members, is examining and analyzing the details of the provisions in the new pool and spa safety act (the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act) in order to prioritize communications and outreach efforts. The entrapment guidelines in the new law are consistent with the new ANSI/APSP-7 American National Standard for Suction Entrapment Avoidance.

After APSP has completed gathering information about the technical requirements of the bill, APSP will be best able to offer strategic and tactical support and assistance to key segments of the APSP membership, including the Builders, Hot Tub, and Commercial councils; government agencies and officials; and other organizations affected by the new law. As one of its first steps in communications and outreach, APSP will be meeting soon with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the lead federal agency that will administer the state grant program provided by the new law.
