Tidewater Chapter Hosts Seminars
The APSP Tidewater Chapter of Region 2 held a two-day educational event March 11-12, in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Due to the many rental properties in the area, attendees were interested in learning more about hot tub repair and troubleshooting, as well as certain safety issues of particular interest to the area.
Paul Wahler’s March 11 seminar, introducing the new APSP Hot Tub Technician Manual, was a precursor to the Hot Tub Technician Course to be offered by APSP later this year. Area service technicians have been asking for more training on hot tub repair, and brought this need to the attention of the Board of Directors, resulting in the development of the Hot Tub Technician Manual and course.
Following the training, the chapter held a tabletop vendor show, including an APSP table of member benefits, followed by a chapter dinner meeting. Forty-two people attended the dinner, including APSP Senior Technical Director Carvin DiGiovanni, and Sarah Sebastian, APSP Director of Membership.
Carvin DiGiovanni’s March 12 seminar targeted people who work with the large number of rental properties, such as realtors, property managers, and local health officials. Attendees included Jack Flythe, Environmental Health Supervisor with the Dare County Department of Public Health and Dennis Speight, Building Inspector for the Town of Kitty Hawk. The main topics were the ANSI/APSP 7 Standard for Suction Entrapment Avoidance and other safety issues of importance to the attendees.
Thanks go to the Tidewater Chapter Board of Directors including Mike DeJesu, President, Gary Sharpe, VP, Jeanne Wysock, Liaison to the Outer Banks Chapter, and Meredith Stevens and Nancy Miller, for initiating and attending this event. Special recognition also goes to Vicki Hudson, Chapter GRAC representative, who, with Jeanne Wysocki, created a database of prospective attendees and non-members.
