Successful Meeting on California Title 20
The APSP Spa/CEC Advisory Committee met July 13, 2007 with Gary Fernstrom, PG&E, and Leo Rainer, Davis Energy Group. The purpose of the meeting was to coordinate how the APSP and the California Energy Commission can continue to work together to have portable spas that are intended to be sold in California meet the CEC Title 20 requirements for spas.
All spas currently being sold in CA must meet the spa requirements of Title 20 in effect since January 6, 2006.
During this meeting, the industry was made aware that the 2006 Title 20 requirements will undergo revision for approval in 2009. It is our understanding that the CEC will call for workshops as soon as October 2007 to begin this revision process. APSP has been invited to participate.
In a concurrent move, the APSP has launched a new standard for ANSI approval titled APSP 14, American National Standard for Energy Efficiency of Self-Contained Portable Spas. Both PG&E and the Davis Energy Group have accepted APSP’s invitation to be on this new APSP standards writing committee. The standard will reflect the current technology on how to determine the energy efficiency of portable spas.
To support the claims in the proposed ANSI standard, the APSP is planning to do research and testing of the energy efficiency of portable spas. This testing will have a significant impact on what is proposed in the new ANSI standard and the future Title 20 regulations scheduled for 2009.
APSP and PG&E continue to work together in a spirit of cooperation to meet the goals and objectives of the CEC Title 20. Contact Carvin DiGiovanni at CDiGiovanni@APSP.org for more information.
