Steve Barnes Named Chair of APSP Technical Committee

The APSP Board of Directors has appointed Steve Barnes, Pentair Water Pool and Spa, to chair the APSP Technical Committee. Barnes assumed the chairmanship at the October Technical Committee meeting, taking over from Lee West of Newport Controls, a division of Rogerson Aircraft Corporation.

Barnes is a member of the ASME, ASTM, and APSP suction safety standards writing committees, and he has invented and designed suction safety fittings and systems.

More Technical News

Several APSP committees are active this fall with meetings and standards writing.

The APSP-7 standards committee on suction entrapment avoidance met September 21-22 and began a revision of the ANSI/APSP-7 2006 standard, based on the latest testing and research.

The APSP-5 standards committee on residential inground pools met October 4-5 in New Orleans to rewrite the 2003 edition of the residential inground pool standard. This work is part of the continuous five-year review cycle for ANSI standards. Following the APSP-5 meeting, the APSP Technical Committee met October 5-6. The Recreational Water Quality Committee will meet November 28-29 in Orlando during the International Pool & Spa Expo. The committee ’s draft standard for water quality in public pools and spas was reviewed at the October Technical Committee meeting. The draft standard will next go out for the ANSI voting and public review process.
