IC Lite: The World’s Largest Swimming Pool—Where and How Big?
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the largest swimming pool in the world is the San Alfonso del Mar seawater pool in Algarrobo, Chile, completed in December 2006. The Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory at the Sonny Carter Training Facility, near NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, is the world’s largest indoor swimming pool. It is 202 feet (61.6 meters) long, 102 feet (31.1 meters) wide, and 40 feet (12.2 meters) deep, with half its depth above ground level and half below. The pool holds 6.2 million gallons (23.5 million liters) of water and is used by astronauts to train in conditions similar to zero gravity.
