(ALEXANDRIA, VA) At the 2017 International Pool | Spa| Patio Expo, The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals debuted PPSO Professional Pool & Spa Operator course,  the industry’s new premier program for commercial swimming pool operators, managers, engineers, service company professionals, health officials and facility owners. During the November 2 session titled “Introducing the Professional Pool & Spa Operator Course,” attendees learned how they can take or teach the PPSO course.

After extensive updates to its original training course aimed at helping commercial operators gain certification, APSP has rolled out a new and improved version of the PPSO course. Developed for the industry by the industry, this new course aims to put students’ needs first and create a course based on those needs. Unlike traditional courses, the PPSO course provides everything commercial operators need and nothing they don’t—setting up commercial operators for success on day one.

“Through our investment in industry education, we’re investing in the industry’s future,” said Rich Gottwald, APSP president and CEO.  We’re committed to industry excellence and look forward to this new era in industry education.”

The PPSO course zeroes in on the core skills needed for safe and efficient pool and spa operations, and is designed to meet the learning styles of non-technical as well as technical students so they have the solid foundation needed to be successful pool operators and meet health and safety standards at facilities nationwide.

“We’ve had wonderful feedback about the course and have had a lot of interest by instructors wishing to start teaching the course,” said Silvia Uribe, APSP Senior Manager, and Global Training & Education. “Whether you need to build a foundation to become a successful commercial operator, or you’re looking to gain revenue and esteem as an instructor, the PPSO is the key to building a successful industry career.”

The PPSO is available in both a print and e-book format and features numerous graphics, videos and hands-on activities to reinforce key learnings and meet the two-day course requirements set by health departments.  Lesson plans in the instructor’s guide concentrate on the fundamentals, with ample demonstrations for safe and proper techniques.

Starting January 2018, students can take the PPSO course at the following upcoming regional shows: Southwest Pool and Spa Show, Southeast Pool & Spa Show, Western Pool & Spa Show and this March at a session taught by the Northeast Spa & Pool Association
