The Issue: Construction Standards

APSP presents unprecedented protection!

To fill a missing link for universally applied construction standards, APSP, in coordination with the International Code Council (ICC), has introduced the International Swimming Pool & Spa Code (ISPSC) – a significant step toward nationwide codes uniformity, advances in safety and technology, and for the first time, unprecedented protection for users of residential and public pools and spas.

The Issue: Construction

Successes:

  • Building on the formerly limited pool and spa requirements of the ICC’s International Building and Residential Codes, the ISPSC will help code enforcers, health officials, designers, and builders more effectively ensure that pools and spas are built safely. With its prescriptive and performance-related provisions, the new code establishes minimum safety standards while meeting the requirements of the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety Act (VGBA) and incorporating all APSP technical standards.
  • The result is a cost-effective uniform standard that will lead to more consistent contractor training and certification, ensuring that only the best trained and most qualified dealers and builders – those who adhere to the APSP Standards – obtain the requisite approvals. The ICC has committed to using its vast resources to assist APSP in securing nationwide adoption.
